Territorial Court sittings July 6 to August 16 outside of Yellowknife

The Territorial Court of the Northwest Territories will resume court hearings outside of Yellowknife starting on July 6, 2020. In recognition of concerns around COVID-19, all court appearances outside Yellowknife will be held remotely by telephone or video between July 6th and August 16th.

This means that persons required to appear before the court will attend the court location in their community and the judge will appear remotely by audio or video. In-person court appearances will resume after August 16th in all locations, so long as the Court determines that it is safe to do so. As a precaution against the spread of COVID-19, at all court appearances - whether or not the judge is appearing remotely - attendees will be required to: undergo symptom screening before entering the facility; use hand-sanitizer; and wear a mask, except when speaking to the court. Attendees are encouraged to wear their own mask. Masks will be provided for those who do not have one.

The Court schedule has been revised to reduce the number of people who are required to attend on any given day. Participants are requested to attend on the designated date and time only as indicated based on the first letter of their last name. All young persons are to attend on the morning of the first day of court only. Where not indicated, all participants are to report at the opening time of court.
